English Springer Spaniel Assoc NSW Inc

About the Club

During 1969 Mrs G Hey saw the need for the establishment of an organisation to promote the English Springer Spaniel in N.S.W. and discussed her ideas with Mrs Esme Westbrook. Mrs Hey wrote to the R.A.S.K.C. (as it was then) for advice on the formation of a dog club. This was followed by an invitation to Springer owners and enthusiasts to meet and discuss the formation of a breed club.

The membership fee was set at $ 2.00 for single and $ 3.00 for dual membership. Regular monthly meetings continued, membership increased and on October 20, 1971 affiliation was granted with the first Championship Show held on 2nd April, 1972. The judge was Mrs C Cooper from New Zealand who awarded Best In Show to Mrs R Holland's Ch Casa Perez Dona Gusana from an entry of 67. Since then 2 Championship shows have been held each year, on Easter Sunday and again in Spring. From the first meeting in 1969 to the present, membership and finances suggests a bright future.
